Legal advice against Telstra (faulty pre paid Sim card)
Main Post:
Hi guys, just after a bit of advice. Brought a $30 pre-paid Telstra Sim from the supermarket and also a Telstra branded phone to use with it. BOTH Telstra Sims, the one supplied with the phone & the $30 one don't work. Supermarket refused a refund. Telstra said they can't do anything and basically want me to buy another Sim. I wasn't pleased with this so asked for a Sim unlock code so I can use the phone with another carrier instead as they obviously can't provide any service. This request was also refused. So I've pre paid for a service and mobile phone which is completely useless and been denied refunds or anything from the supermarket and Telstra. If I go into a Telstra store tomorrow and they don't rectify my solution could i call police to attend for breaking consumer Law? Or any other advice how to proceed be much appreciated. After this ordeal I don't actually want to switch to Telstra anymore and just be happy to use my (locked) new phone with my old provider instead. Thank you.

Is it legal to not be paid for extra hours worked on hourly rate?
Main Post:
I work on a casual contract with an hourly rate where I'll be given a time to come into work (7-11) but I can't leave until the job is done, often it's not completed until 12 or 1 so some shifts I'm not paid for a few hours. My contract doesn't specifically mention I won't be paid overtime.
Top Comment:
Your contract will specifically mention your hourly rate, that is what you will get paid for the hours you complete. You should be submitting a timesheet with your full hours worked, as it is illegal for them to not pay you for hours worked.
Is it legal to hack a website that I paid for from Squarespace/godaddy/etc. ?
Main Post:
Hi there, I'm trying to learn cybersecurity and had the above question in the title.
To be more specific, I bought a website from Squarespace which is for my freelancing photography business. Wondering if this would be legal to play around and learn hacking by hacking my own website. Would I get in trouble for doing it since it's from a provider like Squarespace?
I'm slightly confused since I own the domain for the website, but I'm not sure if there are any ramifications from the provider (Squarespace).
Thanks

Update: 30% to Valve, 45% to Bethesda
This, this is what I wanted to see. Everybody were running around "Greedy Valve, baaad Valve", but not a single word about Bethesda. It was obvious from the very beginning that to people earn money on Bethesda's copyrighted material, they have to have part in the deal. 25% for creators is still unreasonable, but FFS, it's wasn't two-way split, but three-way, with Bethesda taking almost half of it. This too shouldn't go unnoticed.
Is it legal for Reddit to take away all the coins people paid money for?
Main Post:
Reddit recently announced they would be wiping out everyone’s coin balance. I’m no attorney, but it seems to me like taking away Reddit coins from people who paid for them would run afoul of (Cal. Civil Code § 1749.5), which basically says that store gift certificates can’t expire in California.
I’d imagine Reddit’s attorneys would have already looked into this, but it seems questionable to me.

Reddit coins are worthless . A gift certificate has monetary value.
Trump allies paid legal fees for multiple Jan. 6 witnesses, including Cassidy Hutchinson, sparking witness-influencing concerns, report says

“Hutchinson eventually fired the lawyer who was paid for by a pro-Trump group, and went on to provide damning testimony about Trump, the report said.
Two sources familiar with the committee told The Times that they believe Hutchinson's decision to part ways with the lawyer — who had been recommended by Trump allies and paid for by a pro-Trump PAC — likely played a role in her decision to provide new evidence.
Her previous attorney was Stefan Passantino, who worked as an ethics lawyer for the Trump White House, Reuters reported.”
Damn, good for her and her morals!
Employer hasnt paid me in over a month! Help please
Main Post:
Hi, Im an electrician in California working for a non union company. Six weeks ago my employer issued me a check on my payroll date, well that check bounced a couple days later. I was angry because this is now the 4th time this has happened this year. So I stopped showing up for work and made it very clear that I won't return untill they pay me what I'm owed. Well another payroll date comes and they tell me they can't pay me on that date. Two days later they issue me check #1 but not check #2 that is now two days past due. They tell me they are waiting on a big payment any day now.... Now fast forward two weeks and it's another pay date and they say they can still not pay me for check #2 and now check #3.
Mind you I am not working at all. I filed for unemployment and was rejected by the edd guy. So I'm left wondering what are my options. I have conversations documented with my employer about the issue. I have paperwork from my bank regarding the bounced check. I fell as if I am owed some sort of compensation for all of this. I've been looking for a new job but it's wintertime and work generally slows down this time of year for us. I know I can file a claim with the labor board but will I revive any compensation for the time I have gone without work.
I felt like I would be betraying myself if I continued to show up for work when I wasn't getting paid. Mind you also with check #1 I was one of four employees out of about 15 of us who didn't get paid. So I was showing up for work, working alongside coworkers who were paid while I had to wait almost three weeks to receive check #1.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏼
(Edit): Was able to get back on the phone with the edd guy, explained my situation a bit better, and am going to receive benefits.
Top Comment: file with the state department of labor for wage theft, and bounce the fuck out of there. they're about to go belly up, and you want to be first in line to get paid.
